Adapted from the novel by Nicolas Mathieu, winner of the 2018 Prix Goncourt, "Leurs enfants après eux" plunges us into the 1990s, amidst dormant blast furnaces.
We meet young people and their families: the impetuous Anthony, his explosive father, and his resigned mother; his fearless cousin; the indescribable Steph and his spirited girlfriend Clem; the daring Hacine and his friends from the housing project; the marvelous Coralie and the Luxembourger Evelyne. From "Smells Like Teen Spirit" to the 1998 World Cup, from first nervous kisses to the implacable feeling of standing still, we spend four summers – four episodes – in the company of these characters.
With an impressive video setup, this collective fresco with twelve actors and many more extras tells the story of a region's memory and a youth in search of meaning. It offers a tender, clear-eyed, and lively look at an era, individuals, and a territory just a few kilometers from here.
